Sabrina Carpenter Doesn't Want to Discuss Her Relationships: 'I Get Why People Are Interested'

In a 'W Magazine' cover story, the pop star advised fans to listen to her album to get insight

Sabrina Carpenter doesn't like to kiss and tell.

In a W Magazine cover story published Thursday, Sept. 5, the pop star, 25, opened up about why she doesn't want to discuss her relationships outside of her music.

"I get why people are interested,” Carpenter said. “But they can listen to my album and decide for themselves what the songs are about.”

In August, PEOPLE confirmed that Carpenter has had an "on and off" relationship with Barry Keoghan, who starred as the love interest in Carpenter's “Please Please Please” music video, which premiered in June.

The pair first sparked romance rumors following a Los Angeles dinner date in December 2023 after they reportedly crossed paths during Paris Fashion Week two months prior.

They made their first public appearance at a Grammy Awards afterparty in February. While they posed separately on the red carpet, they were seen loved up inside the event and party host W Magazine later shared a photo of them together.

A few days Carpenter and Keoghan, 31, confirmed the relationship when they were seen sharing a kiss after leaving Hotel Bel-Air in Los Angeles.

Amid rumors of the couple's split in August, Keoghan seemingly responded to the gossip by liking the "Nonsense" arist's flirty Instagram post, which showed her posing in baby blue lingerie.

At the time, PEOPLE reached out to reps for Carpenter and Keoghan for comment.

In a June interview with Rolling Stone, Carpenter alluded to her and Keoghan having an undefined relationship when she asked the interviewer how she should "skirt around" whether the Saltburn star was her boyfriend.

"The [dating] pool is the pool, and when you meet people that feel authentic and are so brilliant and amazing in every way, that’s what you do," the "Feather" hitmaker said. "Obviously, I write songs about exactly how I feel, so I guess I can’t be so surprised that people are interested in who and what those songs are about. That’s something that comes with the territory.”
