Seahawks clear up center, trade Nick Harris to Cleveland, await Connor Williams’ arrival
The Seahawks had three centers.
One was a proven, six-year starter in the NFL. Another still has three years left on his rookie contract.
The third was, thus, expendable.
Seattle traded former University of Washington All Pac-12 center Nick Harris and a seventh-round draft choice in 2026 to Cleveland Sunday. The Seahawks are getting back a sixth-round pick in 2026 from the Browns.
Harris, 25, goes back to where he came from this spring when he signed a one-year contract with Seattle in free agency. His first four years in the NFL were with the Browns, 2020-23, after his UW career.
The Seahawks are welcoming 27-year-old former Miami Dolphins starting center Connor Williams to the team this week.
“He should be coming into town pretty soon,” coach Mike Macdonald said Saturday evening in Inglewood, California, following Seattle’s 16-3 win over the Chargers.
Williams signed a one-year contract for $3 million guaranteed with Seattle last week. The deal could max out at $6 million for Williams through incentives and per-game bonuses.
At that money, and his experience starting in the league, Williams is starting.
The question is: When?
He is coming off a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his knee in December, while playing his final game for Miami. It’s conceivable Williams won’t be full go in full pads right away in practices this week, which include joint practices Wednesday and Thursday against the Tennessee Titans in Nashville.
Harris began alternating with Olu Oluwatimi as the Seahawks’ first-team center in training camp last week. After the team signed Williams, Harris started Seattle’s preseason opener at the Los Angeles Chargers Saturday. Oluwatimi entered the game in the first half.
Oluwatimi, the team’s fifth-round pick from Michigan last year, will become the number-two center behind Williams.
