See some digging? Don't be alarmed, there's an ongoing water line project in Petersburg.

The Petersburg water service line is currently undergoing inventory.

Over the next few weeks, contractors working for the city of Petersburg will be digging in the city's neighborhoods to locate your water line as part of an ongoing water service line inventory project by Petersburg's Public Utilities department. The project, which began on June 17, aims to collect information on the city's water service line.

According to the city, all excavation will be minimal and be limited to the immediate vicinity of the water service line to your home.

"The city of Petersburg will work closely with the residents and regulatory agencies to deliver a high-quality project, while minimizing disruptions to you and the environment," stated a news flash on the ongoing project released by the city.

All work is expected to be conducted on weekdays during business hours. According to the news flash, the city's contractors may need to walk on your property to gain access to water service boxes that are at or near the property line. However, access into your home is not required. All City of Petersburg personnel and contractors will carry identification badges.
