Significant road flooding reported across Brunswick, Pender counties as Debby moves in

With Tropical Storm Debby's heavier rain bands reaching the Wilmington area Wednesday evening, reports of road flooding were increasing.

"Considerable flooding is expected," the National Weather Service in Wilmington said in a briefing Wednesday. "Additional heavy rainfall is expected, especially tonight through Thursday. Be especially cautious at night when flooding dangers are harder to recognize."

North Carolina Gov. Roy Cooper addressed the issue earlier Wednesday, saying now wasn't the time to try to drive on flooded roads.

"Now is not the time to see if your car floats, because it doesn't," Cooper said.
