The Sims 4 has confirmed that players will be able to make their horses look like unicorns in Create a Sim (CAS) mode as part of the upcoming Horse Ranch expansion.

However, unicorns won't exist as an occult or as a separate animal in the pack.

Last week, the first glimpse of 'unicorns' in the pack were spotted in a promo featuring drag queen Trixie Mattel and musician Breland.

Since then, the team has posted an Instagram reel showcasing how players can customise their horses in CAS, while offering a glimpse at the variety of accessories available – including leg warmers, bows, hats, and a unicorn horn.

Earlier this month, Digital Spy had the opportunity to attend a preview event, where Maxis showed off the horse-themed expansion. Most of what was shown on that day ended up being featured in Horse Ranch's livestream, which can be viewed here.

But we also saw the unicorn horn in CAS, with 12 different swatches including white, black, gold, silver, a couple of shades of pink, and rainbow. The horn itself sparkles, and the Sim Gurus said that it alters the horse's voice – though does not grant the horse any unique abilities.

There are more than 30 breeds of horses in the expansion, from Arabian and Barb to Friesian and Mustang.

Coat colours and patterns, the mane, the forelock, feathers, and the tail are among the different parts of the horse that can be customised, while Paint Mode will allow Simmers to draw on the horse as well.

A horse can also have up to three traits, helping to give each individual horse its own personality. There are 11 traits to choose from, including Independent, Defiant, Intelligent, Aggressive, Friendly, and Free Spirit.

For fans who are wondering whether unicorns will appear separate from horses, the answer is unfortunately 'no'.

However, the amount of customisation for horses here is impressive, and we're looking forward to having a go at creating our own in CAS mode when the expansion launches later this week.

The Sims 4 Horse Ranch is out on Thursday, July 20 on PC, Mac, PlayStation 4 and 5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S.
