Six students receive scholarships from Carroll Electric Cooperative

CARROLLTON − Carroll Electric Cooperative has awarded six scholarships to graduating high school seniors whose parents or guardians are Carroll Electric members. After interviewing 26 applicants, a panel of independent judges awarded six $1,000 Children of Members Scholarships.

Andrew Rankin of New Philadelphia was selected as the first-place winner, qualifying him to compete at the statewide contest against representatives from Ohio’s 24 other electric cooperatives. At thestatewide competition, Andrew was an honorable mention and was awarded an additional $1,700scholarship. Andrew, a homeschooled student, plans to major in pre-veterinary medicine or animal sciences at either Morehead State University, The University of Findlay, Bowling Green State University or Huntington University.

The following students also received scholarships:

  • Abby Moody of Malvern High School plans to major in health sciences or pre-medicine at La Roche University in Pittsburgh.

  • Owen Schoelles of New Philadelphia High School plans to major in pre-medicine at either Bowling Green State University, Kent State University, or Ohio University.

  • Meagan Rutledge of Carrollton High School plans to major in middle school education at either Ohio Christian University, Kentucky Christian University, Liberty University, or Johnson University.

  • Isaac Roberts of Carrollton High School plans to major in mechanical engineering at the University of Akron.

  • Gabriel Blissenbach of Southern Local High School plans to major in environmental sciences at West Liberty University in West Virginia.
