Somerset Berkley boys tennis advance to D2 Sweet 16: Top performers (May 27-June 1)

SOMERSET — It was an opening day, playoff success for the Somerset Berkley boys tennis team.

The 15th seeded Raiders made quick work of 18th seed Plymouth South Wednesday, taking a decisive 4-1 victory at home in the Division 2 Round of 32 contest.

With the win, SBR (15-4) will face either No. 2 seed Sharon or 34th seed Billerica Memorial in the Sweet 16.

Max Petit improves to 19-0 after winning his singles match in straight sets (6-1, 6-0). Jackson Souza won a tight 6-3, 3-6, 10-6 match at second singles. Brayden Dorego and Ian Foulds won their match (6-2, 6-1) at first doubles while Kelan Langlois and Nate Melo (6-1, 6-2) were victorious at second doubles.

Mystic Valley 5, Westport 0

The 22nd seeded Wildcats were eliminated from the postseason dropping all five games against Mystic Valley Regional Charter on the road. At first doubles, eighth grader Avery Howell and ninth grader Ryan Keane split the first two sets with their opponents before losing in a third-set tiebreaker.

Girls Tennis

Case 4, Mohawk Trail Regional 1

The 31st seeded Cardinals took four of five game against 34th seed Mohawk Trail Regional at home. Case (7-11) will face No. 2 seed Manchester Essex in the Division 4 Round of 32

Baseball

Diman 10, Blackstone Valley 0

Sam Perry pitched a two-hit shutout for the Bengals in their win over Blackstone Valley in the Vocational state semifinal. Perry, who picked off a runner, struck out eight batters and walked one in six innings for Diman (15-2). Byron Bell, Sam Perry, Matthew Almeida, Bobby Leach and Jacob Almeida each had two hits in the game. Blackstone Valley came into the game with a 17-3 record.

Boys Tennis

Malden 3, Durfee 2

The Hilltoppers were eliminated from the postseason in the Division 1 preliminary matchup on the road. Will Rumsey won at first singles for Durfee (12-5), 7-6, 7-6. Colin Fleet won a three-set battle at second singles, 4-6, 6-2, 6-4.

Diman 8, West Bridgewater 5

Kacie Lynch slugged three home runs to help lift the Bengals to a road win against WestBridgewater. Diman (13-7) awaits the tournament seedings.
