Son of Man Accused of Trying to Assassinate Donald Trump Arrested on Child Pornography Charges

Ryan Routh's son Oran Routh was arrested in North Carolina after authorities searched his home on Saturday, according to a criminal complaint

The son of Ryan Routh, the man accused in an alleged foiled assasination attempt on former President Donald Trump, has been taken into custody on charges related to child sex abuse material, according to a criminal complaint filed by federal prosecutors.

Oran Routh, the alleged would-be assassin’s son, is charged with receipt of child pornography and possession of child pornography, according to the complaint, which was obtained by PEOPLE.

The complaint alleges investigators found “hundreds” of files with child sex abuse material at Oran’s home in Guilford County, N.C., on Saturday, Sept. 21. Federal investigators were conducting a search at Oran’s home “in connection with an investigation unrelated to child exploitation," according to the complaint.

Oran’s father, Ryan, 58, was arrested the weekend prior after allegedly attempting to assassinate Trump, 78, while he was playing a round of golf at his Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida, the Secret Service has said.

Ryan was shot at by a Secret Service agent who spotted his rifle sticking out from a bush roughly 500 yards away from Trump, the Secret Service has said. The Secret Service says the accused assassin was never able to fire off a round and fled the scene after being shot at himself. He later arrested along a highway in a nearby county.

The alleged child sex abuse material was found on a Samsung Galaxy Note device in the Routh son’s bedroom, as well as another on a Samsung Galaxy Note device in his possession at the time of the search, according to the complaint.

"A review of the SD card located in Device-1 revealed that it contained hundreds of child pornography files," federal prosecutors wrote in the complaint. "These files include videos from a known child pornography series created outside the state of North Carolina."

Oran is scheduled to appear before a judge on Tuesday afternoon, according to the Associated Press.

It's not immediately clear if he has retained an attorney.
