Sophie Turner's ITV thriller Joan has unveiled a tense first-look trailer ahead of its release in the autumn.

The six-part drama sees the Game of Thrones star transform into real-life jewel thief Joan Hannington, donning a load of 1980s fashion and wigs in the process.

The trailer balances the duality of Hannington's life as a criminal and a mother, ending with her being held at gunpoint.

"I'm so excited to be bringing Joan Hannington's fascinating life story to screen in Joan," Turner previously said.

"She is one of the most notorious figures in the criminal underworld of London, earning her the nickname 'The Godmother'.

"A woman who goes between her thriving and daring career as a jewel thief, all whilst trying to get her daughter back from social services, we see a mother in despair swept up in the exhilarating world of crime."

The show is an international co-production, with The CW working with ITV and airing it in the United States.

The network's entertainment chief Brad Schwartz heaped praise upon the show while it was in production last year, calling Turner's performance "phenomenal" and predicting that it will be a big "awards bait" show.

This isn't the first big-name Sophie Turner project set in the '80s, as she previously starred in 2016's X-Men: Apocalypse as Jean Grey/Phoenix.

Back in 2022, Oscar Isaac, who played the titular baddie, admitted that he wishes it "would have been a better film", although he did look back at that time "with fondness".

Joan is due to air soon on ITV, and will stream on ITVX. It will be aired on The CW in the US.
