Southern Miss football vs Southeastern Louisiana: Final score, highlights from Week 2 game
Southern Miss football obtained its first win of the season on Saturday night, a 35-10 decision over Southeastern Louisiana at M. M. Roberts Stadium.
It was no easy cruising for the Golden Eagles (1-1).
The Southern Miss offense got off to a putrid start. It’s first play from scrimmage was a Ti Mims fumble that SLU (0-2) recovered and converted into a field goal. It didn’t pick up a first down on either of its next two drives for a grand total of minus-6 team yards. It took a Lions muffed punt for the Southern Miss offense to find a spark with a Kyirin Heath 9-yard touchdown catch late in the first quarter.
Then, Southern Miss jumped ahead 14-3 on a Davis Dalton touchdown, only for Southeastern Louisiana to cut the lead to 14-10 just before halftime.

The defense was what kept Southern Miss in the lead. It limited SLU to 27 yards in the third quarter, while Dreke Clark ran for a 1-yard rushing touchdown to extend the Southern Miss lead to 21-10. Nickel cornerback Dylan Lawrence flipped a 63-yard interception returned for a touchdown in the fourth quarter to seal the win before Kenyon Clay rushed for a 70-yard touchdown with less than two minutes to play.
Southern Miss had just 51 rushing yards before Clay's big run.
"We were a little inconsistent and herky-jerky offensively throughout the game," Southern Miss coach Will Hall said. "We'd make a play, and it'd get called back with holding or we would have something there and we'd just be a little bit off."
