Former WNBA Star Reportedly Facing Troubling Charges

A former WNBA star is reportedly facing some troubling charges from an arrest this past Friday.

Shoni Schimmel, a two-time WNBA All-Star, was reportedly arrested on charges of assault by strangulation of an intimate dating partner and assault resulting in substantial bodily injury.

According to The Oregonian, Schimmel, 29, was arrested on Friday for an incident that allegedly took place on June 13, 2021.

The former Louisville and WNBA player is facing serious charges that could result in jail time, if proven guilty.

She’s reportedly facing a maximum sentence of 15 years in federal prison, three years’ supervised release and a $250,000 fine if convicted.

Schimmel made two WNBA All-Star teams with the Atlanta Dream. Her last WNBA season came in 2018 with the Las Vegas Aces.
