Former U of L women's golfer Hana Ryskova recently defeated Louisville native Lindsay Gahm at the U.S. Women's Amateur Championship to take the title.

Former Louisville golferHana Ryskova became the first Czech golfer to win the U.S. Women’s Mid-Amateur Championship at Brae Burn Country Club in West Newton, Massachusetts.

In the "all-Louisville" final, Ryskova posted a 5-and-4 victory over Louisville native and former Sacred Heart golfer Lindsay Gahm.

I just need to tell my future employer that I need some PTO for (the 2025 U.S. Women’s Open at Erin Hills and the U.S. Women’s Amateur at Bandon Dunes)," Ryskova said in a news release. "We were looking at the sites, and I’ve never been to Wisconsin or Oregon.

"I’m just super excited. It’s a big thing just to qualify for the U.S. Women’s Amateur in general. And for the U.S. Open, dream come true. I’m an amateur," Ryskova said. "I didn’t really want to turn pro ever. It's just a good experience to go as an amateur and play that tournament."

Ryskova will receive the following:

  • A gold medal and custody of the Mildred Gardinor Prunaret Trophy for one year

  • Exemptions into the next 10 U.S. Women's Mid-Amateur Championships

  • Exemptions into the 2025 and 2026 U.S. Women's Amateur Championships

  • Exemption into the 2025 U.S. Women's Open Championship at Erin Hills

  • Name engraved on a plaque that will reside in the Hall of Champions at the USGA Museum in Liberty Corner, New Jersey

Around the city: Louisville volleyball ticket deal for Sept. 22

Fourth-ranked Louisville volleyball will face fifth-ranked Nebraska at 12:30 p.m. Sept. 22 at the KFC Yum! Center, and the Cardinals want fans to pack the place for the first nationally televised volleyball match on ABC.

Tickets are available for the discounted price of $5 for the home match.

Former Scott County baseball player Trace Willhoite was named the Player of the Month in the MLB Draft League.

Willhoite batted .272 with 10 home runs, four doubles, 27 RBIs and 19 runs scored in 27 games for the Black Bears.

High school recruiting: Daviess County softball star verbally commits to Kentucky

Daviess County junior softball star Annie Newman announced her verbal commitment to Kentucky.

Newman batted .512 with 64 hits and 11 home runs last season for the Panthers. She earned second-team honors on the Kentucky Softball Coaches Association Class 3A All-State team.
