Olathe East, Bishop Miege, Maize South are Kansas state champs: boys high school soccer

Olathe East, Maize South and Bishop Miege captured Kansas state championships in boys high school soccer on Saturday afternoon.

Olathe East fended off Shawnee Mission West 1-0 in an all-Johnson County state championship match at Topeka’s Hummer Park. The Hawks finish the season 17-4-0.

Duncan Black scored the match’s sole goal off a free kick taken by Payson Hoffstatter.

In the Class 5A state-title game at Spring Hill High School, Maize South edged Blue Valley West in the finale for the second straight year. The Mavericks won this one 3-2, finishing their season 20-1-0.

In the Class 4-1A finale at the Scheels Stryker Complex in Wichita, Bishop Miege beat Bishop Ward 5-2. The Stags won their eighth straight state championship and finish their season 17-4-0.

It’s the Stags’ 10th state title in the past 12 years and 12th overall.
