Stevie Wonder announces Milwaukee show, part of 10-city tour hitting battleground states
Legendary 25-time Grammy winner Stevie Wonder has announced a rare 10-date tour for next month — and Milwaukee is one of the stops.
Wonder, 74, will be at Fiserv Forum on Oct. 24, the Milwaukee Bucks arena announced Thursday, for what's being called the "Sing Your Song! As We Fix Our Nation's Broken Heart" tour.
The tour takes its name from Wonder's new single, "Can We Fix Our Nation's Broken Heart," and according to a press release, is timed to take place "at the height of a critical election season and a pivotal juncture in American politics and culture."
In a statement, Wonder suggested the concerts will be a call for "joy over anger, kindness over recrimination, peace over war." Several of the stops are in battleground states — kicking off in Pittsburgh Oct. 8, and wrapping up in Grand Rapids, Michigan, on Oct. 30. Other stops include Philadelphia, Atlanta, Detroit, Greensboro, North Carolina, and also New York, Baltimore and Minneapolis.
In a press release, Wonder announced that some complimentary tickets will be issued to people "who are already working tirelessly to fix our nation's broken heart." The tour follows Wonder's performance at the United Center in Chicago during the Democratic National Convention last month.
This will be Wonder's first concert in Milwaukee in nine years. His last show in town, a headlining appearance at Summerfest, made the Journal Sentinel's best concerts of the year list in 2015.
Tickets for the Milwaukee concert go on sale at noon Friday at the box office (1111 N. Phillips Ave.) and fiservforum.com. Prices have yet to be announced.
