Stormy weather could plague Beaver County Boom! Officials say concerts 'rain or shine'

While several local communities have begun preparations for Saturday's Beaver County Boom celebration, residents planning to attend the celebration might want to keep an eye on the skies.

According to the National Weather Service of Pittsburgh, early forecasts for Saturday called for thunderstorms throughout the day. Local meteorologists have warned there will be a high chance of rain during the day, with a potential for strong winds, hail and tornadoes in the region.

The inclement weather may impact some of the events at the Beaver County Boom celebrations occurring on Saturday afternoon, but event organizers are remaining hopeful on social media that the events will still be able to occur without interruptions. According to the Beaver County Boom page on Facebook, the concerts will be rain or shine. If the rain causes a delay for fireworks, they will instead be launched on Sunday, June 30.

Visitors to the celebration are encouraged to pay attention, as several roads in the area will be closed for the event and many pedestrians may be crossing streets. Parking is expected to be tight in the immediate areas around the event, but a shuttle service will be available from parking spaces at the Bradys Run Ice Arena and New Brighton Sewage Treatment Facility. The shuttles will begin transporting visitors at 3 p.m. and transport passengers every 15 minutes.

Meanwhile, concerned by the weather forecast, organizers of the Babesburgh festival in Pittsburgh moved their event from this Saturday to this Sunday.

"All details, plans, and location (Allegheny Landing Park on the city's North Shore) will remain; however, we are moving all plans to Sunday," spokeswoman Leigh Frank said. "We've been very closely monitoring the weather forecast and have consulted with meteorologists and no one is confident that Saturday will be a successful day for a festival. The safety of attendees, vendors, performers, and participants is a primary concern, and given the severity of the anticipated weather, we are not comfortable hosting the event on Saturday."

Founded by Beaver resident Cat Bruno, the first-time Babesburgh festival will showcase entrepreneurial women and the variety of services, brews, art and wellness products they bring to the region.
