Teenage bicyclist seriously injured in crash with dump truck in New City

A 13-year-old boy was left seriously injured after a crash between a bicycle and a dump truck in New City on Wednesday afternoon.

Clarkstown Police Det. Norm Peters said the driver of a 2024 Kenworth Dump Truck headed northbound on S. Main Street and a bicyclist headed the same direction collided near the intersection of S. Main Street and First Street in New City around 2:10 p.m. Wednesday.

Peters said a preliminary investigation found that the two collided while the truck attempted to make a right turn onto First Street and the bicyclist, a 13-year-old male, continued straight on S. Main Street.

The boy was transported to Westchester Medical Center and is being treated for serious injuries.

Peters said the incident is still under investigation by the Clarkstown Police Department's Accident Investigation Unit. Anyone who has information or witnessed the incident is asked to call the Clarkstown Police Department at 845-639-5800.
