Tennessee basketball to face Miami on Dec. 10 in 2024 Jimmy V Classic in New York City
Tennessee basketball will play Miami on Dec. 10 in New York City as part of the Jimmy V Classic.
ESPN announced Wednesday the game will be at 6:30 p.m. ET on ESPN.
"The Jimmy V Classic is a special event, not just because of the high quality of basketball it displays annually, but because of the name and the cause behind it," Vols coach Rick Barnes said in a school release. "We are honored to be participating in this year's edition. It will be a thrill for our players to compete at Madison Square Garden, while facing a veteran and well-coached Miami team will help prepare us for the rigors of SEC play."
Tennessee versus Miami is the first game at Madison Square Garden, while Arkansas and Michigan play at 9 p.m.
The Vols have a gauntlet of power-conference games in December. They open the month by hosting Syracuse on Dec. 3 at Thompson-Boling Arena at Food City Center in the ACC/SEC Challenge. They also play at Illinois during December. The date and time have yet to be announced as the Vols and Fighting Illini complete the back end of a home-and-home series.
Tennessee basketball to play Miami in Jimmy V Classic in New York City
Tennessee has often played in New York under coach Rick Barnes, including in back-to-back seasons in 2021-22 and 2022-23 before a break last season.
UT is playing its eighth game in New York City since Barnes was hired prior to the 2015-16 season. It has a 2-5 record and is winless at Madison Square Garden.
The Vols lost to Florida Atlantic in the 2023 NCAA Tournament in the Sweet 16 at Madison Square Garden. They lost to Texas Tech at Madison Square Garden in December 2021 in the Jimmy V Classic.
Tennessee beat Maryland at Brooklyn's Barclays Center in December 2022 in the Hall of Fame Invitational. UT split a pair of games at Barclays Center in November 2018, beating Louisville then Losing to Kansas in the NIT Season Tip-Off. They lost to George Washington and Nebraska in November 2015 in the Barclays Classic.
Tennessee has three power-conference games in November, December
In addition to the three power-conference games in December, the Vols also play three in November.
Tennessee plays at Louisville on Nov. 9 in the first matchup of a home-and-home series. It is UT's second regular-season game.
UT is one of four teams in the Baha Mar Hoops Bahamas Championship. It will play two games. The other teams in the field are Baylor, St. John's and Virginia. Matchups have yet to be announced.
