Terrence Howard Said It Was 'Great' Reuniting with Former “Empire” Costar Taraji P. Henson on “Fight Night”

"We've been attached to so many things ... I think we must've owned each other something from a previous lifetime," Howard said of working with Henson

Being a part of Fight Night: The Million Dollar Heist presented Terrence Howard with the chance to relive the past in more ways than one.

As PEOPLE joined other reporters on the Peacock drama's set in May, Howard spoke with the press about his experience working on the 1970s set show — and also getting to re-team up with his former Empire costar, Taraji P. Henson.

Howard, 55, and Henson, 53, notably costarred as Lucious Lyon and Loretha "Cookie" Lyon on Fox's Empire from 2015 to 2020. The pair's extensive joint credit history also includes Hustle & Flow, Four Brothers and Term Life.

Speaking about working on the same project as the fellow Academy Award nominee, Howard told reporters that "it was great, because we don't have that much interaction."

"Just knowing the synchronicities associated with us, with her name being TPH, my name being TDH, we got our start with [director] John Singleton," he explained. "We've been attached to so many things that had this starlight celestial event kind of appeal to it."

"I think we must've owned each other something from a previous lifetime," he added.

In their new project for Peacock, based on real-life events involving an armed robbery that occurred during the night of Muhammad Ali's 1970 comeback match, Howard plays Richard "Cadillac Richie" Wheeler.

"The greatest part is Lao Tzu, a Chinese philosopher, he said no one does a single thing for a single motive. You would think that the things that Caddie is doing is out of self-motivated greed or self-centered egotism, but when you find out why a lot of his actions are taking place, then you begin to understand and each person will be able to relate to him," he told the press what he's enjoyed about diving into the character.

"Everyone has some deep-seated reason for everything that they do, be it right or be it wrong," he added. "Discovering that about Cadillac was an important part of the journey because once I realized what his motivation was, it informed me of the actions he would take. I'm being cheeky a little bit, because I don't want to give anything away."
