Tesla Launches Track Pack for the Model S Plaid BRAD TORCHIA

Tesla has announced a Track Package for the Model S Plaid, which should finally deliver on the 200-mph top speed that company initially claimed for the high-performance EV.

The new package includes the already-available Carbon Ceramic Brake Kit, unique wheels, 285/35R20 front and 305/30R20 rear Goodyear Supercar 3R tires on new "Zero-G" wheels. It also offers the opportunity to raise the speed limiter to 200 mph, although the fine print leaves some wiggle room for Tesla:

"Top speed of 200 mph achievable with Carbon Ceramic Brake Kit and proper wheels and tires fitted for those speeds," the site reads. We assume the Zero-G wheels with Goodyear tires are the proper wheels and tires, but "achievable" and available to the customer are different metrics. Because Tesla has a habit of delaying promised product features due to fine-print hang-ups, we aren't counting chickens.

Still, the kit—available for between $15,000 and $20,000, though the site doesn't say what affects the price—should solve one of the Plaid's greatest issues. Since Tesla released the 1020-hp EV, it's received criticism for what many have called inadequate brakes. Videos of brake failures circulated online. Tesla's site claims that the Track Package will alleviate this issue:

"Designed for the ultimate track experience, the Model S Plaid Track Package delivers high-speed stability, maximum cornering force and repeatable stopping power during high-performance driving while unlocking a top speed of 200 mph" (emphasis ours).

The company says the Track Package will be available in June.
