Three month U.S. Route 1 detour coming along Rockhill Drive in Bensalem. What to expect

Updated

Get ready to detour, Bensalem drivers. Again.

Starting Sept. 9 the Route 1 turning lane off Rockhill Drive will be closed three months for work related to the reconstruction of the Neshaminy/Rockhill Drive Interchange, PennDOT announced on Wednesday.

The closure involves the turning lane to the ramp from westbound Rockhill Drive to northbound Route 1, which is part of the $116 million project to reconstruct, widen, and improve a three-mile section of U.S. 1 in Bucks County.

PennDOT is recommending drivers use southbound Old Lincoln Highway and eastbound Street Road (Route 132) to access northbound U.S. 1 during construction, which is expected to last until Dec. 15. Drivers are advised to allow extra time when traveling near the work area because backups and delays may occur.

More road projects in Bucks County Overhaul at Rockhill Drive and Neshaminy Boulevard in Bensalem coming. Here's the plan

The work is part of PennDOT’s U.S. 1/RC2 contract that will reconstruct and widen U.S. 1 from south of the Rockhill Drive Interchange to north of the Penndel/Business U.S. 1 Interchange.

This project also will improve the U.S. 1 interchanges at Neshaminy, Penndel/Business U.S. 1, and Rockhill Drive. Additionally, the bridges over Rockhill Drive, the Neshaminy Creek, and Business U.S. 1/CSX/SEPTA will be replaced.
