Three Tennessee football players out vs Chattanooga

Tennessee freshman linebackers Edwin Spillman and Jordan Burns and reserve offensive lineman Masai Reddick are out for today's season opener against Chattanooga.

All three players wore a jersey and street clothes during warm-ups.

Defensive back Jourdan Thomas, who suffered a season-ending knee injury during preseason camp, is also out. He was projected as a starter at Star position, what UT calls its nickelback.

Otherwise, No. 15 Tennessee appears healthy to kick off the season.

Seven key players are back from 2023 season-ending injuries: Wide receiver Bru McCoy, wide receiver Dont'e Thornton, offensive guard Javontez Spraggins, offensive guard Andrej Karic, offensive tackle John Campbell, linebacker Keenan Pili and linebacker Arion Carter.

They returned to the lineup in preseason camp and are cleared to play against Chattanooga.

Running backs Cam Seldon and Peyton Lewis underwent offseason shoulder surgery. But both are also expected to play against Chattanooga.
