Tom Selleck's Easy Tuna Melt Is Creamy, Cheesy and Super Satisfying

I may not have a Ferrari, live in Hawaii or solve boutique cases with two Doberman Pinschers as my companions. I do, however, drive a Camaro, live in Florida, and write food articles while my Siberian Husky sits waiting at my heel. So no, I’m not living the life of Tom Magnum from Magnum P.I., but maybe, my life mirrors a Florida-Man version of the hit series from the 1980s.

Yes, technically one could argue that Miami Vice is the Florida-Man version of Magnum P.I., but James Crocket and Ricardo Tubbs couldn’t sew a button on Tom Magnum’s Hawaiian shirt. Heck, neither could I, but what I can do—in true food writer and reviewer style—is remake the sandwich inspired by the actor who portrayed Tom Magnum, Tom Selleck.

So, hop in, unbutton that top button (and maybe a few more) and join me for a ride as we set out to make our very own Tom Selleck Tuna Melt Sandwich.

Ingredients for Tom Selleck’s Tuna Melt

To get started on this magnum melt of a sandwich, you’ll need two 6-ounce cans of water-packed tuna—drained and flaked—finely chopped celery, finely chopped green pepper, finely chopped onion, mayonnaise, lemon juice, a dash of black pepper, two slices of your favorite toasted bread and two slices of Monterey Jack cheese.

How to Make Tom Selleck’s Tuna Melt

It won’t take you much time to solve this mystery. Just combine the first seven ingredients into a tuna mixture and spread it on top of two toasted slices of bread. Place your cheese on top and place it in the broiler for a couple of minutes, until the cheese is melted. And there you have it. An open and shut case!

What I Thought of Tom Selleck’s Tuna Melt

To be honest, this is my first time ever having a tuna melt and I’ve got to say that it is the best tuna sandwich I have ever had. The peppers, onions and celery gave the sandwich a nice crunch, while the melted cheese brought everything together. The flavors were surprisingly magical! It was as if each bite transported you to a tropical island paradise somewhere off in the Pacific. This is a 10/10 and I would definitely make it again.

Tips for Making Tom Selleck’s Tuna Melt

Toast the bread. Toasting the bread before throwing it the broiler gives the sandwich an even more satisfying crunch when you bite into it.
