Tori Spelling and Brian Austin Green reveal they were estranged for 18 years due to their exes

"It was almost like going through a divorce," says Spelling.

Tori Spelling and Brian Austin Green revisited their decades-long estrangement, revealing that the fallout stemmed from their respective ex-partners at the time.

On the latest episode of Green's Oldish podcast, co-hosted with Spelling's brother Randy and Green's fiancé Sharna Burgess, the former couple and Beverly Hills, 90210 costars rehashed their falling out after the show had wrapped. Spelling attributed the estrangement to having lost herself in a relationship with fellow costar Vincent Young.

"You and I didn't speak for a long time," Green said on the podcast. "It was about 18 years."

“What I experienced was I remember going by Vincent's house to see you multiple days after we had wrapped and really trying to keep a connection going," Green recalled, noting that it "got to the point where I just never got that from you." Then, years later, at a 90210 DVD release party when Spelling was married to ex-husband Dean McDermott and Green was with then-girlfriend Megan Fox, "You never said hello to me once," Green said.

"I just kept missing you guys, and then you were gone for the night," Green continued. "So it was just this thing of like, 'Oh my God, she does not want to be my friend anymore.' When that wasn't reciprocated, you just kind of give up and assume like, 'Okay, well, maybe something's going on, and she needs time.' I don't know what was going on in your life.”

Spelling attributed the falling out to her relationship with Young, whom she dated between 1999 and 2001, noting that he was a “great guy," but "it was a complicated relationship.”

“I lost myself in that relationship, as I had done previously in relationships and then went on to do in [future] relationships," Spelling explained. "That relationship was not a good relationship for me . . . not that he necessarily did anything wrong. It's just, I wish I had valued myself more to be like, 'Okay, you're showing up in a certain way. If the other person isn't showing up in the same way, get out of the relationship.' And that's all it is. Vince and I have a great relationship to this day.”

Spelling added that Green's relationship with fellow costar Vanessa Marcil at the time (the duo dated between 1999 and 2003) also complicated matters. Green's relationship with Marcil "was frustrating to see from a friend's perspective that loves someone so much," Spelling said — namely, seeing "how your friend is treated and not feel okay with it, but knowing that you can't really say anything because the person has to go through their own experience and journey."

Spelling and Green, who are now great friends again, played love interests Donna and David on Beverly Hills, 90210, with the characters getting married in the series finale. Offscreen, they dated as teens. Spelling has called Green her "first love," admitting in her own podcast that "no one’s broken my heart" since Green.
