Truck crash on N.M. 502 blocks traffic

Aug. 29—A semitruck overturned on N.M. 502 Thursday afternoon, blocking all eastbound lanes of traffic on the highway, Los Alamos police said.

Officers from the Los Alamos Police Department and Santa Fe County Sheriff's Office responded to the crash shortly after 1:30 p.m., said Los Alamos police Cmdr. Daniel Roberts.

Aside from leaking diesel fuel, Roberts said, police were not aware of any spill of hazardous materials from the crash.

The overturned truck was still blocking eastbound lanes at about 3 p.m., he said, and officials were working to get equipment to the site to move the truck and clear the roadway to prepare for traffic from schools as well as from Los Alamos National Laboratory. Police said it would likely take "several hours" to clear the roadway for traffic, Roberts said.
