Trump’s desecration of Arlington National Cemetery shows he is unfit to be president | Opinion

Disrespecting veterans

So this sorry episode of former President Donald Trump turning a visit to Arlington National Cemetery (ANC) into a campaign video is top of mind right now. The U.S. Army stated that over 3,000 visits to the ANC are held each year without incident — until Trump’s unfortunate visit recently.

But I predict that somehow this debacle will find its way to the U.S Supreme Court where six members of that court will find that out of the population of 345,426,571 persons in the United States only one of these individuals —Trump — has the right to desecrate one of the nation’s most sacred shrines. He clearly did so, but his cabal on the court will find that he and he alone has the right to violate all laws, morals, and customs of our beloved country.

This is the sad space we find ourselves in today. What is to be done? We must — must — send him packing to the dustbin of history.

Arlington assault

Former President Donald Trump’s campaign staffers physically assaulted an Arlington National Cemetery employee for trying to prevent them from violating federal law and filming a campaign ad. They then claimed the employee had mental problems for insisting that the law be obeyed. This should give you great insight into the moral character of these people. I wonder if Corporal Bone spurs told those families he was posing with that their kin were “suckers and losers.”

Seriously, if you can’t see the problem here, then congratulations on earning your master’s degree from Trump University.

Character matters

Deciding who to vote for in the 2024 election for president should be about positions on American issues, but for me it is not that complicated. My decision is simple. In 2015, I watched former President Donald Trump stand on an Alabama campaign stage and make fun of a disabled journalist who had interviewed him several times. He mocked his speech pattern and imitated his physical disability for the enjoyment of his supporters. How can I vote for a person who would even let that happen, especially in front of cameras and a crowd of people, some of whom may have disabilities in their lives? For me this was a deal breaker and always will be.

I voted for the first time in 1972, and I have never seen such a display from a candidate. I will vote for the candidate in 2024 who may not be perfect but does not have this type of outrageous character flaw.

Trump vote

Rape is a crime against a person’s body and soul. To condone a rape you are condoning and accepting the rapist. Throughout the United States, many men are sitting on death row who murdered to cover up their rape. They raped the very young and the very old, and have admitted if they were released, they would do it again.

The worst offenders are “power-aggressive” rapists. He intimidates his victims into remaining silent while he humiliates them.

Former President Donald John Trump is such a rapist.

All during his trials, he never showed any remorse for his actions. Instead, he blamed his victims. He expected the juries to side with him. When they didn’t, like a little boy, he threw a temper tantrum. He expects you to ignore his crime and God.

If you vote for Trump you are saying the rape of any female is acceptable. You are saying to your family, your friends and God it is OK for a person to be raped.

A vote for Donald John Trump is a vote for a RAPIST!

Care thanks

This is an overdue public letter of appreciation and support for Bluegrass Care Navigators (BGCN) hospice program. It’s been nearly a year since my mother died at 92+ years of age and BGCN helped our family keep my mom in her home through the end of her life.

BGCN provided us with wonderful medical care, advice, compassion, assistance and understanding. Visiting nurses and in-home aides were focused on the patient while being concerned and attentive to the caregivers. These professionals explained and taught us techniques for care and coping. They made what could have been a terribly traumatic experience remarkably tolerable for all involved.

I hope when anyone in our area may need help keeping a loved one at home or more comfortable in a nursing home late in their lives, that BGCN is still available. They are a worthwhile organization deserving of monetary donations and support from volunteers willing to help others in their greatest time of need.

I doubt many deaths are “easy,” but I believe BGCN made my loved one’s inevitable passing the best it could have been. I am genuinely deeply grateful for them and urge others to support the organization

Vance association

I hate to alarm you any more than you are already alarmed by the upcoming election but I will. There is a book called “Unhumans: The Secret History of Communist Revolutions (and How to Crush Them)“ written by Jack Posobiec.

Posobiec is a dangerous far right-wing political activist who has written a book praising Francisco Franco, Sen. Joseph McCarthy and Augusto Pinochet Ugarte. If you are not familiar with these people, I suggest you read about them. What they did to their political opponents or anyone opposing them was nothing less than brutal. Posobiec admires these people and thinks they did the right thing. Scary, isn’t it?

Well, guess who endorsed the book. Steve Bannon, Donald Trump, Jr., and JD Vance. Vance is on the ballot with a 78-year-old man who is obviously on a physical, mental and emotional downswing.

Before you cast your ballot on Nov. 5, please do some research and decide which way you want this country to go. Vote as if your country depends on it.

Night riding

Many of Lexington’s streets have little lighting — lovely at night, but hazardous. When driving, I shudder when I come upon people biking or crossing streets who are invisible until I am right there. No light colored clothing, no lights or reflectors on themselves or on their bikes.

While the city is busy looking at ways to make Lexington safer – like speed tables, traffic routing, safety vests worn by the Frontrunners — what about distributing, free-of-charge through community outreach, reflective tape or even a LFUCG reflective patch for every bike and helmet and jacket in the city? The campaign slogan? See Me! Lexington.
