Turner earns 2nd straight Somerset All-County baseball MVP

North Star senior Cayden Turner was tabbed Somerset All-County baseball team MVP for the second straight season by the county coaches on Wednesday night.

The southpaw was a unanimous selection.

On the hill, Turner went 7-1 with a 1.42 ERA and 67 strikeouts over 59⅓ innings and 15 appearances. Turner batted .611 with 44 hits, including seven doubles, five triples, four home runs, 27 RBIs, 42 runs scored and 10 stolen bases. The Penn State Behrend recruit finished his career with 127 hits and 19 mound victories.

Third-year North Star coach Jake Klukaszewski repeated as Coach of the Year, sharing honors with Conemaugh Township's Sam Zambanini.

North Star went 21-5, capturing a District 5 Class 2A title and advanced to the PIAA semifinals before falling to back-to-back state champion Bald Eagle Area.

Meanwhile, Zambanini led Conemaugh Township to a 20-5 mark, a Heritage Conference title game appearance and a District 5-1A championship in his 33rd and final season.
