Vanderbilt baseball signee Owen Hall picked by Tigers in second round of 2024 MLB Draft

Vanderbilt baseball signee Owen Hall was selected by the Detroit Tigers in the second round of the 2024 MLB Draft.

Hall was the Commodores' top signee and was ranked No. 62 in the country by Perfect Game. His fastball touches 97 mph. He is from Edmond North High School in Edmond, Oklahoma.

Assuming that Hall ultimately signs with the Tigers, Vanderbilt is left with eight pitchers in its recruiting class but none in the top 200. The best remaining signee is England Bryan, a graduate of Middle Tennessee Christian School, ranked No. 202 in the country.

The Commodores have lost at least one high-school signee to the draft every year since 2017. They lost three players in 2021, seven in 2022 and four in 2023.

Hall getting drafted is a blow to a recruiting class that is already below Vanderbilt's usual standards, ranking 13th in the country and eighth in the SEC before the draft.
