Cherryville Little Theatre is putting on a production of Disney's “The Little Mermaid” in August, and long-time director Angela Dolan said she hopes the audience has as much fun as the cast does.

To bring the public in on the fun, the cast teamed up with The Fuzzy Cow, a frozen yogurt shop at 204 E. Main St. in Cherryville, which created a limited-time mermaid themed menu to go with the show, Dolan said.

From now through closing night, anyone who visits The Fuzzy Cow and purchases a mermaid-themed drink can post a photo of themselves drinking it on social media and tag The Fuzzy Cow and Cherryville Little Theater to be entered into a raffle for the chance to win a prize.

Names for the raffle prizes will be chosen during intermission of every show, according to Dolan.

In addition to potential prizes, Dolan said she hopes the cast and audience alike leave the show laughing and having fun.

“I’m hoping that the cast members had a lot of fun. It’s community theater, we’re all volunteers … I hope that they make friends with other cast members. I hope the new kids, maybe, caught the theater bug and want to keep coming. I hope the audience when they’re watching the show, I hope they feel that kind of energy.”

Dolan, a long-time dance and theater instructor in Lincoln and Gaston counties, said she is typically drawn to funny shows, and intentionally brought out as much humor as possible in this production.

“I typically like directing comedies,” she said. “We’ve done a lot of work with how some of the lines are delivered or how some of the talking is to play up some of the moments in the script that could be opportunities for comedy.”

The show includes a 41-member cast ranging in age from 9 to over 60 years old.

Shows are at 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday and at 3 p.m. Sunday.

Tickets are $11 and are available at cherryvillelittletheater.org or at the door 301 W. Academy St., Cherryville.
