VOTE: The Patriot Ledger Student of the Week for Feb. 12-15

The Patriot Ledger Student of the Week nominations come from high school staff members. But you, our readers, make the decision in our poll found at the bottom of this story. Polls go up every Monday morning. Winners are announced every Friday morning. We're proud to highlight the achievements of high school students. This feature is similar to our Athlete of the Week.

Hailey Santos, a senior at Cohasset High School, has been instrumental in bringing the Credit For Life Fair to Cohasset High School, working closely alongside the supervising teacher. Her attention to detail, enthusiasm for the project, and level of organization has made it a wonderful event for seniors. Through an extensive application process, the state Treasurer’s Office of Economic Empowerment awards high schools across the Commonwealth funding to expand or establish financial education programs. The Financial Education Innovation Fund was established as an ongoing effort to strengthen financial literacy. These awards are funded through Division of Banks’ settlements over alleged unlawful lending practices.

Cadence Murphy, a senior at Weymouth High School, is a compassionate, outgoing, and academically driven young woman. Cadence's relentless curiosity, pursuit of knowledge, and resilience in the face of adversity make her growth noteworthy. Cadence's academic achievements are impressive, as demonstrated by her AP scores and challenging course load. Cadence's ability to balance this with extracurricular activities, such as Model UN, Environmental Club, Varsity Tennis, World Language Society and National Honor Society speaks to her dedication and time management skills. She has also engaged in community service projects and part-time jobs. "Cadence has a strong sense of responsibility and independence, working multiple jobs to support herself and save for future expenses," her nomination says. Her involvement in volunteer work, such as the Red Cross Blood Drive and Old South Union Church Food Pantry Garden, showcases her compassionate and caring spirit.

Votes are unlimited. Voting closes on Thursday, Feb. 15 at noon. Emailed votes will not be counted. Is your school interested in nominating someone? A school staff member should email studentoftheweek@patriotledger.com for more information.
