The actor, a 2024 Emmy Awards nominee for his role in Fallout, used his time while chatting with PEOPLE and Entertainment Weekly’s Red Carpet Live show to tease his role in season 3 of HBO's hit series The White Lotus.

Asked what he’s excited about the most, Goggins — who is starring in the show alongside an ensemble cast that includes Carrie Coon, Michelle Monaghan, Parker Posey, Leslie Bibb, Jason Isaacs, Patrick Schwarzenegger and more — said he’s ready “for everybody to see what Mike White wrote and the stories that he crafted.”

“Nobody writes an existential crisis like Mike White does. And we’re all still unpacking it," added Goggins, 52. “It was one of the greatest experiences of my life."

News that The White Lotus had been renewed for a third season came just three episodes after season 2 premiered in October 2022, causing fans to speculate possible plot points and potential characters to make their return.

And while he knows he has to be "very, very careful" to not "reveal anything" about what's to come, Goggins teased to PEOPLE in June that the season 3 script "ran the gamut."

"Mike himself has said what he's said about season one and what that represents and what season two represents," he said of the show's creator. "Season 3, without putting words in his mouth, will represent something very, very, very specific and, for my money, will resonate deeply to a very big audience, and certainly with the fans of what he does."

The actor went on to say "there's a lot of pressure" in being part of a show that has become "a cultural juggernaut" — but he feels so fortunate to be involved.

"When I say the 'Golden Ticket,' it's not what you can get from an experience like that, but it's the experience itself, and for the few that are given that opportunity, it is something that will bond you for life," Goggins added.

While speaking to PEOPLE and EW at the Emmys on Sunday, Goggins said he feels "really lucky" to be up for an award in a category — outstanding lead actor in a drama series, with some of of his "biggest heroes." (Also in consideration are Dominic West, Donald Glover, Gary Oldman, Hiroyuki Sanada and Idris Elba.)

"Just to be counted among them is extraordinary," Goggins raves, sharing that he "was in Thailand when this was announced," presumably filming The White Lotus, "and so I didn’t understand the critical mass that was kind of building behind [Fallout] until I got back to America."

"And then I thought, ‘This is the flowers; this is really lucky,' " he added. "I’ve been doing this a really long time, and to be here at this stage of my life, it feels really good."
