Warsaw resident uses his camera to tell the stories of nature

COSHOCTON − Brandon Elijah Scott of Warsaw is the September Artist of the Month from the Coshocton Art Guild.

Scott is a wildlife photographer who has traveled the nation and nearly 30 countries capturing animals, landscapes and wonders with his camera, a Sony alpha series mirrorless DSLR.

"I want to tell stories beyond just the beauty of the natural world. I always strive to make the viewer stop and pause and say, 'Wow,'" Scott said. "I love to capture behavior and character when it comes to my wildlife portraits. To see the quirks or how an animal was acting at that moment caught in time. It’s one thing to have a nice bird portrait of it sitting on a branch looking cute, but it’s more powerful to show that bird readying to take flight with a caterpillar in its mouth as it takes food back to its little ones."

Scott's photography style can be described as high dynamic range, the practice of taking multiple exposures of a subject then blending them together later in post processing. This allows one to recover lost pixels and gives the capability to see detail and color that might have been lost due to a dark area or when the sun is so bright it washes out the detail of the sky.

A variety of limited edition canvas and prints of Scott's work can be found at the Elk's Eye Gallery in Zanesville and Tollhouse Art and Gifts in Roscoe Village. There is also an exhibit of more than 25 of his photographs on display through Sept. 30 at ARTSNCT in Newcomerstown.

Scott will be teaching Breathe Life into Your Photos: Post Processing and Editing at 5 p.m. Sept. 27 at the Tollhouse. Participants can learn how to enhance your photos with Photoshop, using a laptop and photographs. Scott will cover how to improve color, composition, reduce noise and make your pictures pop.
