The Washburn post-secondary institutions are getting an overall 8.3% budget increase for the upcoming academic year.

The Washburn University Board of Regents unanimously approved a $130 million budget for Washburn University and Washburn Institute of Technology. Last year their budget was roughly $120 million.

"Washburn is committed to making college affordable for all students who wish to further their education, while also attracting and retaining the very best talent to serve as faculty and staff," university president JuliAnn Mazachek said in a written statement. "It is a delicate balance that is centered on our most valuable resource and that's our people."

Fiscal year 2025 Washburn University's budget is $114,757,360. The WUBOR increased the budget by 9.28%. WU's budget last year was $105,009,443.

A little more than half the revenue budgeted comes from tuition, which will be raised by 3.85% from last year. Tuition is estimated to bring in $54,867,201. Roughly another quarter of the budgeted revenue comes from sales tax and the last quarter comes from state appropriations and other funding. Washburn will receive roughly $14,270,000 from the state.

The university increased scholarship spending from $9,444,807 to $12,075,068. The athletic spending budget has grown from last year to $4,111,041 to $4,384,718.

Washburn Institute of Technology's budget

Washburn Institute of Technology's operating budget for 2025 is $15,343,704. This is a 1.17% increase from last year's budget of $15,085,206.

The tech school expects to earn 7.53% less in tuition than last year, according to the budget. Over $9 million of revenue will come from technical state aid and it has increased by 1.5% from last year. The majority of the budget comes from that state revenue.

Scholarship funding was cut by 48.16%. The scholarship funds were $340,500 last year and will be $176,500 this year. The practical nursing department will receive $514,247 in department funding, making it the highest-funded department at Washburn Tech.
