How to Watch the 2024 Paris Olympics Opening Ceremony

In Paris, the Olympics begin today, July 26th, and for the first time in history, the Opening Ceremony will not take place in a stadium. The French have decided to make it more public—Liberté, Egalité, Fraternité!—and are carrying the performance out on La Seine, the river that runs through their capital.

The athletes will be paraded along the Seine on boats for each national delegation, and the parade will end at the Trocadéro, the area in front of the Tour Eiffel, where the remaining ceremonial events will take place.

When the modern Olympic games started in 1896, the Greeks chose to revive some ancient Olympic traditions, and discard others. The ancient games hosted ceremonies to mark the beginning and end of every sporting event, there are only three main official ceremonies today: the opening, closing, and medal ceremonies. The preview show for the ceremony will start today, July 26, at 12 p.m. eastern on NBC, and the Opening Ceremony itself will start at 1:30 p.m. eastern. This evening, there will be a replay of the ceremony, airing from 7:30 to 11:30 p.m. eastern on NBC The broadcasted coverage will be hosted by sports commentator Mike Tirico, singer and daytime talk-show host Kelly Clarkson, and retired football player Peyton Manning.

If you want to stream the Opening Ceremony, you can watch it on Peacock—which will be streaming all Olympic events. Peacock, like NBC, will have the Paris Preview Show at 12 p.m. eastern, live coverage of the Opening Ceremony starting at 1:30 p.m. eastern, and the primetime replay at 7:30 pm eastern.
