How the Wet T-Shirt Scene in ‘Twisters’ Ended Up Making the Final Cut

If you watched Twisters this weekend and desperately wish the movie had ended with a mini making-of documentary and/or blooper reel (bring! back! bloopers! during! end! credits!), very much same. But as a result we spent the weekend going on various deep dives, including but not limited to reading the New York Times photo essay about the storm chaser who inspired Tyler’s character *and* (also important) going BTS on the movie’s wet T-shirt scene.

You know the one: when Glen Powell walks into the rain wearing nothing but a white T-shirt, which gets immediately soaked, and then puts on his cowboy hat? It’s actually less of a scene and more of a life experience.

ANYWAY, apparently this precious gift to humanity barely made the cut. When asked if he knew Glen’s wet T-shirt was going to be such a THING, director Lee Isaac Chung told The Wrap that he tried to trim the scene until editor Terilyn A. Shropshire stepped in on behalf of “the ladies.”

“You know, I tried to reduce that scene. I trimmed it down And my editor at one point said, ‘You’re about to face a mutiny in this editing office. You have been requested to please restore the full length of that shot or else there will be a mutiny.’”

Chung added, “I didn’t plan it like that,” explaining, “When I saw it on rolling on the monitor, then I was realizing what I had just created.”

A masterpiece, that’s what!
