Who Will Win Big at the 2024 Emmys? Here Are PEOPLE's Predictions

PEOPLE Picks editor Tom Gliatto locks in his predictions for some of the biggest categories

TV's biggest night is almost here!

The 2024 Emmy Awards are on Sept. 15, and this year's ceremony promises to be another star-studded night with a lot of healthy competition. The nominations alone were record-breaking.The Bear's 23 nodssurpassed the record for most nominations in the comedy category, previously held by 30 Rock, which earned 22 in 2009.

Dan Levy, who will be hosting the show alongside his father Eugene Levy, tells PEOPLE that they're "coming at" the hosting gig "from a very different place."

"My dad and I are not stand-up comics," the actor, 41, says. "But we’re both really hard workers. We want to create an atmosphere that feels really welcome and celebratory."

Eugene, 77, adds, "As first timers, our hope is that the show this year will have enough laughs, enough charm, enough goodwill and enough love for the medium that gave both my son and myself a start in this business."

Outstanding Comedy Series: 'The Bear'

This show about the trials and triumphs of chef Carmy Berzatto (Jeremy Allen White) isn't really much of a comedy — but it's not as if you can send it back to the kitchen, can you? Season 2 whipped up a storm of tears and stress, especially with a brilliant episode featuring fellow nominee Jamie Lee Curtis as Carmy's overwrought mama. Season 1 took home 10 trophies — season 2's doggie bag will be heavy too.

Outstanding Limited or Anthology Series: 'Baby Reindeer'

Star Richard Gadd's harrowing account of his nightmarish tango with a stalker (Jessica Gunning) was the year's most-talked about show — a powerful, at times punishing, study in sexual anguish.

Outstanding Drama Series: 'Shogun'

Honored with 25 nominations, the show about a stealthy but brutal dynastic struggle in 17th-century Japan is one of the finest TV productions in years. Boldly epic in scale yet exquisitely detailed, it sometimes seems to be emerging from the actual mists of the past.

Shogun should also claim the top acting prizes. Hiroyuki Sanada is magnificently magisterial as Lord Yoshii Tornaga, who combines lofty integrity with cruel cunning. Anna Sawai, as the translator for an English navigator (Cosmo Jarvis) is both a romantic heroine and the thrilling embodiment of a feudal code of honor.

Outstanding Actress in a Comedy Series: Jean Smart, 'Hacks'

Jean Smart has already won twice for her superb performance — witty, tough, vulnerable — as a comedian reaching for (and finally grasping) the late-night brass ring. This'll make three.

Outstanding Reality Competition: 'The Traitors'

Hosted by nominee Alan Cumming with an air of plummy relish, this silly, suspenseful game of skulduggery in a Scottish castle is one of the few reality shows to generate that buzzy word "joy."

Outstanding Guest Actor in a Comedy Series: Ryan Gosling, 'Saturday Night Live'

On his third gig as host, the actor reduced cast member Heidi Gardner to giggles with a Beavis and Butt-Head skit (with Mikey Day).
