Woman in Late 30s Reveals She's Never Been Kissed: 'People See It as Abnormal' (Exclusive)

"So I'm in my late 30s and I've never been physically intimate in any way — like, I'm little miss never-been-kissed, I've never done any of it," Sarah says on TikTok

A woman in her late 30s is going viral for sharing that she's "never been physically intimate in any way" — and she's "not the least bit embarrassed."

"So I'm in my late 30s and I've never been physically intimate in any way — like, I'm little miss never-been-kissed, I've never done any of it," she says in one TikTok video. "And I wanna ask people, if you were in my position, would you feel embarrassed to say that out loud to people? Because I am not the least bit embarrassed about this."

Speaking to PEOPLE, Sarah (who prefers to keep her last name anonymous) says that she began sharing her story on social media as a means of connecting with others who, like her, haven't been physically intimate yet.

"I started posting videos of myself during lockdown," Sarah says. "I think the first time I talked about never being physically intimate was in 2021, and it went a little bit viral."

Since then, she's amassed a following of more than 17,000, with many of her videos garnering millions of views. The reaction to her lack of intimacy, she says, is often "very strong."

"It seems to surprise people," she says. "People see it as something abnormal. They find it very strange."

On the flip side, though, Sarah says she's received thousands of comments from people who are in the same boat.

"People love to talk about how rough the comments section can be, but I've found there are not nearly as many negative comments as there are positive ones," she says.

Many of the people who comment or message Sarah on TikTok, "say it’s a flex that they waited instead of being with bad people."

Sarah is quick to note that she hasn't pledged to wait until marriage for physical intimacy, but she did make a promise to herself.

"It's never been about waiting for marriage, but about waiting for the right person," she says.

In other words, she doesn't look at physical intimacy as a box to be checked — but a small part of her journey that simply doesn't define her.

In other TikTok videos, Sarah delves further into her reasoning for not yet being physically intimate, saying that social media users have questioned whether she is "asexual."

"I've always identified as just a straight person with a massive anxiety problem," she says on TikTok, adding that while she "doesn't think" of herself as sexual, "at this point in my life, I have zero interest in dating."

She continues: "But I do want to try and understand myself better if possible ... I just don't know whether there could be something more that applies to me, or if I'm just straight and anxious."

"[Physical intimacy] is just one part of who we are. People are multi-faceted," she says. "Not everyone fits the mold, and I think that’s why these videos do so well — because it's such a deviation from what many would consider 'normal.' "

She continues: "My hope is that those who watch my videos can relate. I hope they get some sort of value out if it — I want people to know they’re not alone in the experience. Go to the comments and see how many others are in the same boat."
