Woman Sets up a ‘Bar’ for Backyard Squirrels Complete With Signature Drinks

Many people leave food and water out for the wildlife living in their backyards. I recently stumbled across a woman who gets very creative when it comes to feeding the squirrels in her yard, and she has a lot of fun doing it. Brooke Walding posted a video to Instagram at the beginning of July about the unique way she offers water to her bushy tailed friends, and it's absolutely adorable!

Brooke set up a 'bar' for them called The Tipsy Acorn. She even created two signature drinks for the squirrels: the Walnut Whirl and the Strawberry Squeak. Both drinks have 'shots' of squirrel booster in them, which provides them with vitamin and mineral supplements. Watch on to see which drink the squirrel liked best!

This is such a fun idea! I love how Brooke mentioned her security guy at the bar and that squirrels like to drink alone. It looked like both squirrels enjoyed The Tipsy Acorn even though they made a mess! Commenter @auntjojo75 cracked me up when she shared, "I just gave my backyard squirrels a bunch of cold strawberries on a 90 and very humid day, to supplement their nut feeder and water bowl. Could not get over how fast they devoured them. One squirrel is a bully and likes to set up shop inside the feeder and not let the other guys get nuts, have to figure out how to convince him that sharing is caring!" as did @marionettevie who added, "I hope they're good tippers!" And I couldn't agree more with @kristen_lent who said simply, "I hope this series never ends!!"

What Do Squirrels Eat and Drink?

Believe it or not, squirrels eat more than just nuts and seeds. They also eat a variety of fruits and veggies like apples, oranges, and carrots. They eat mushrooms, tree bark, and twigs. They even eat insects and small bugs occasionally.

Walnuts, pine nuts, almonds, and unsalted peanuts (all raw) are all squirrel favorites. There are some nuts you should avoid giving to squirrels, and those include: prepackaged and/or salted nuts of any kind, dried cashews, roasted peanuts, and hickory nuts. While a squirrel will eat any nuts, those particular nuts don't have the proper nutritional value that they need, even though they'll gobble them down like cookies. Too much of a good thing is never a good thing, so avoid feeding squirrels foods they don't need.

Squirrels also need 2-3 ounces of water every day. That's why having a bird bath in your yard for the wildlife to drink from is a good idea. But if you don't have one in your backyard, they'll still find water. They'll drink from streams, rivers, ponds, lakes, pet water bowls, and even from a dripping hose...they know where to find water!

I really hope Brooke keeps coming up with fun ideas for restaurants and bars for the squirrels. It's so much fun to watch her videos and they always brighten up my day!
