CHICAGO - If it wasn't bad enough losing by double digits to the woeful Chicago White Sox on Monday night, the Yankees were also hoping that Jazz Chisholm was OK.

During a stunning 12-2 Yankees' loss at Guaranteed Rate Field, Chisholm sustained an elbow injury in the fifth inning and was removed for pinch-hitter Ben Rice in the seventh.

X-rays taken Monday were negative, though Chisholm is scheduled for an MRI and further examination on Tuesday, after being examined by the White Sox’s team physician.

Based on the initial test results, "I'm not super concerned about it,'' said Chisholm, who described his elbow as "still kind of sore'' after the game. "But I think that we're going to be good.''

In the process of stealing third base, Chisholm rounded the bag and made an aggressive head-first slide home while scoring on Anthony Volpe's fifth-inning single, fielded by shortstop Nicky Lopez in shallow left field.

Chisholm played two more defensive innings because "my adrenaline was still going, so I didn’t feel it right away,'' he said.

By the sixth inning, Chisholm told Aaron Boone that his elbow had started to throb, and the manager replied: "Let’s go get it checked out.''

"We'll see what we have (Tuesday),'' said Boone, adding that White Sox catcher Korey Lee "kind of landed'' on Chisholm during the play. "Hopefully, it's not too serious.''

In the home seventh, DJ LeMahieu moved from first base to third base to replace Chisholm defensively, and Rice remained in the game at first base.

Chisholm was 2-for-3 on Monday night, batting safely in 12 of his first 14 games since being acquired via trade from the Miami Marlins on July 27.

Last Saturday, Chisholm became the first player in Yankees history with seven home runs in his first 12 games with the franchise.

At the time of Chisholm's exit, the White Sox (29-91) led 5-2 against the Yankees (70-50), who now trail the AL East-leading Orioles by a half-game after stranding 16 runners and batting 2-for-18 with runners in scoring position.

This was just the White Sox's second win in their last 26 games, having snapped a 21-game losing streak last week.

Manager Pedro Grifol was fired last Thursday, replaced by Grady Sizemore, who was a Boone teammate in 2005-06 at Cleveland.
